Level 3 Award in Damp, Mould and Condensation in Buildings – 2 Day Course
A new 2-Day course on Damp, Mould and Condensation in Buildings has been launched, leading to an ABBE Level 3 Award qualification. The course places significant emphasis on traditional and historic buildings.
The curriculum includes dedicated coverage of the ‘Joint Position Statement – Investigation of moisture and its effects on traditional buildings: Principles and competencies’, published by RICS in collaboration with partner organizations including Historic England.
Available both as live online sessions and in-person for group bookings, the course has been developed by Professor John Edwards, who brings over 40 years of expertise in building moisture issues. As a Chartered Building Surveyor, Chartered Environmentalist, and Building Pathologist with accreditation in building conservation, Professor Edwards delivers the course independently of commercial interests.
The qualification is Ofqual regulated and incorporates extensive reference to BS 5250: 2021 (Management of Moisture in Buildings). It also addresses how retrofit measures can impact moisture behavior in buildings. This combination of theoretical foundation and practical expertise ensures participants receive comprehensive training in moisture management.
The inaugural course will be delivered online on February 17-18, 2025. Early booking is recommended due to anticipated high demand.
This initiative continues the Environment Study Centre’s track record of innovation in building education. A decade ago, they pioneered the Level 3 Award in traditional building retrofit, developed by Professor Edwards in conjunction with CITB. Now, they are first again with this specialized qualification in Damp, Mould and Condensation in Buildings, developed with ABBE.
